Dr. Roderick A. Garcia – Cosmetic and Family Dentist

Dr. Roderick A. Garcia is a Cosmetic and Family dentist who has provided quality dental care for his patients for over 3 decades.  Dr. Garcia provides a wide range of dental procedures for his patients including removable partial dentures.

Removable partial dentures replace missing teeth while using teeth that are present to help hold the removable partial denture in place.  Removable partial dentures are held in place by friction utilizing clasps on teeth adjacent to the missing teeth.
There are generally 3 types of removable partial dentures:

1) A partial denture made of a metal base with acrylic and acrylic or porcelain teeth and metal clasps.  These are the traditional partial dentures that have been around for many years and are supported by the teeth and the tissue.

2) A partial denture made of a nylon material that is flexible and light ( valplast or duraflex) with acrylic teeth and nylon clasps.  This type of partial denture is called  tissue born because even though it clasps teeth for retention, it is supported mainly by the tissue. This type of partial denture is very cosmetic.  Because this type of partial denture is supported almost entirely by the tissue, patients will feel more pressure on the tissue when biting on food etc.  The clasps are either clear or tissue colored which makes them very useful in cosmetic front teeth replacements.

3) A temporary or interim all acrylic removable partial denture.  These partial dentures are all acrylic with acrylic teeth and wire metal clasps.  They are used while extraction sites are healing for implant or bridge placement in the future.

Albuquerque Cosmetic and Family Dentist

Roderick A. Garcia DMD Albuquerque Cosmetic and Family dentist has provided exceptional care for his patients since 1983. Dr. Garcia provides a full range of dental procedures including dental bridges.

Dental Bridges are dental restorations used to replace one or more missing teeth in a fixed way (not removable) when implants cannot be done or when the patient elects not to do implants. Dental bridges will also keep a patients bite from shifting by maintaining the missing tooth space.

Dental bridges are made of solid zirconia, zirconia with porcelain fused to it or porcelain fused to metal (gold and silver) or solid gold.

If the replaced teeth are in the front of the mouth, porcelain will be fused to zirconia or metal depending on the bridge span for excellent cosmetic results. If the teeth are missing posteriorly ( in the back of the mouth) a solid zirconia, porcelain fused to metal, or solid gold bridge will be placed. All on 4 restorations are called hybrid bridges. They are bridges made of acrylic teeth over an acrylic base that is supported by a very precisely fit titanium milled bar that is then attached via implant screws to implants placed in the patients upper or lower jaws.
For an all on 4 procedure to be done, all the teeth on the upper or lower jaw must be removed, 4 implants strategically placed by the surgeon then previously made dentures are modified and adapted to the implants and converted to temporary hybrid bridges.
Three months of healing is necessary for the implants to integrate to the bone before the permanent hybrid bridge is fabricated.
Sometimes implants are placed first and upper and lower dentures are worn as removable dentures to allow for implant healing without any load(pressure) on the newly placed implants.
