Roderick Garcia, DMD, has over 33 years of providing patients with a variety of cosmetic dentistry services, including crowns, implants, gum recontouring, and bite adjustments. Additionally, Roderick Garcia, DMD’s expertise includes applying dental veneers.

Also referred to as dental porcelain laminates, veneers are individualized wafer-thin tooth-colored shells made from resin composite materials or porcelain that cover the surface of teeth to improve smiles. Veneers are often used to adjust teeth that are broken, chipped, worn down, discolored, or misaligned, among other issues.

The process of getting a dental veneer often takes as many as three trips to the dentist. The first visit is a consultation in which potential patients can discover which type of veneer is best suited for their needs, while the other two visits involve the making of and application of the veneers.

To begin, the dentist will trim roughly a half-millimeter from the patient’s tooth to make room for the veneer, and then create an impression of the tooth, which is sent to a dental laboratory where the veneer is crafted. After examining the veneer’s fit and color in a subsequent visit, the dentist will clean, polish, and etch your tooth to start the bonding process, which involves a special cement and light beam that expedites the bonding. The veneers can last up to 15 years before needing to be replaced.
